Topic Heist!

That's right, today's topic is a blatant rip-off of the beautiful Angie's 'Team' posts. Ironically, the great bulk of the time i can't commit to either of Angie's chosen teams (rolls eyes at self). But i can choose teams in a heartbeat on today's question: When it comes to your wardrobe, do you bat on Team Perfection or Team Unlimited Variety? Would you rather have a limited number, say around a dozen, of outfits which suit you perfectly in every way - incredibly flattering, the finest materials, impeccable cut, just the thing for coping with your weather, project the ideal sense of yourself - but you only have that dozen outfits for a year.

Or, would you go for an unlimited closet - something new everyday, be it shoes, scarves, jackets, skirts, on and on. As much as you can wear every day, except nothing is absolutely perfect - there may be a snag on the sweater, color is a bit off on that designer coat, the beautifully aged jeans bag in the butt, the sheath is uncomfortably tight under the arms. And you may be missing one or two key items that would be useful workhorses, like a great white tee or denim straight skirt. But there's new stuff all the time!

I'm sure it's obvious i bat for Team Perfection. And i think a lot of us have ideas about who's on what team. But i've been really curious about your true preferences the last while, and wondering just how well i actually know my fellow bloggers..........per Angie's rules, you can only choose one team. No need to explain (although you're perfectly welcome so to do). One word comments encouraged - this is a Perfect opportunity for de-lurking!

  1. Luckily I don't play baseball so I don't have to bat for any team, lol. I call umpire!

  2. I don't like imperfections in my clothes, so I'll go with Team Perfection (which I bet surprises you). If I didn't have to deal with those little imperfections, I would be on the other team for sure.

I have actually had large chunks of my life where I did not have infinite variety in my outfits and clothes, so going minimalist is not such a stretch for me.

  3. How fun! so Meg is playing my part on this one - i like 'umpire' for those sitting it out! (i don't play team sports either, more of a yoga gal).

and i was HOPING that we'd get some surprise choices!!! even more fun that it's Sheila! i have noticed that you are very particular about your clothes, and seem willing to part with them over pretty minor flaws. and how interesting that you were minimalist in the past - maybe you could do a post sometime?

    happy day! steph

  4. At this point in my life, I'm Team Unlimited Choices, as I'm settling into proper middle-age, a changed body, and I'm working on finding an overall style that feels right for me. I can easily see myself landing in Team Perfection in a couple of years' time, but right now, I'm sort of enjoying being a teenager with a middle-aged income and access to lots of thrift shops while I figure it all out.

  5. I'm definitely on Team Perfection - I tried out for Team Variety Unltd for a few years but they wouldn't have me! Unfortunately I still have an excess of unworn clothes waiting to be culled from those times, but only a handful of clothes I really love and feel great in, that I wear over and over, a uniform of sorts (my favourite formula/silhouette: puffy 'statement' skirt + fitted simple top/jacket).

  6. Ugh, I would say team Unlimited Variety hands-down, but I'm getting to the point where I don't like stuff to be too tight under the arms or have snags. But, I'm definitely not on Team Perfection. I like to vary what I wear all the time. So, imperfections or not, I'm rollin' with Team Unlimited Variety.

  8. Welcome Ana! "...I'm sort of enjoying being a teenager with a middle-aged income ..." on my god i love that phrase! & it's true - this time of life is similar to the teenage years (hormones, body changes, changing role in family & community.

    but no curfew ;)

Hullo elle! interesting that you've fairly recently switched teams. i think your choice of uniform is wonderful on you, those skirts you wear are amazing and look right at home in the woods :)

Hi Gracey! hmm, another surprise. you always have that 'everything just so' feel, i would've guess Team Perfection. a woman of mystery.....

Hi Ravina! that's no fun to feel 'stuck' on the wrong team......well, if you're like most bloggers who make it towards the year mark, at that time you'll find you're much much closer to being on your favorite team :) keep the faith!

    happy friday! steph

  12. I'm with team perfection. Period. It took me so long to get there. But if I ever want to change that I would do it the way Terri does. In a nice ,calculated way and over a certain period of time, while documenting the results.

  15. i am definitely on team perfection but I do love the look of worn and aged clothes.. i think that makes the clothes more special and personal.. it shows that you love your garments!

Thank you for the kind comments on my blog ^^ always a pleasure to read them!!

  16. oh ilegirl, i've been naughty and let your comment sit here all these days! bad mrs. e!!! after last weekend, i can see your perfect closet as well - all hangers the same, every garment facing magnetic north, color coding for blouses, camis, skirts, pants, trousers, leggings, capris, clamdiggers, bermuda shorts....... ;)

Hello Busy Lady! you're more than on Team Perfection, you're darn near Head Coach! & i couldn't agree more about clothes that've seen a little love. i love that patina of wear mixed up with some new - one foot in the past, the other striding forward.

Thank You - i really enjoy your posts and it's great to find more kindred spirits out there!

    happy mother's day! steph

  17. Err... I think I am already in Team Unlimited even if I never bought another thread again in my life!

  18. I would love to be on Team Perfection (I do group clothes by type then colour and my hangers all face the same way) but I just don't have the polish. I once read an article in Elle about a girl who cleared her entire closet and paid for a stylist to choose her 24 perfect items. The thought of it intrigues me and makes me hyperventilate at the same time...!

  19. oh Veshoevius, that cracks me up!!

Hello Mrs. B! i could definitely see you on Team Perfection. but i understand your reaction to that article - attraction/repulsion!!

    take care, steph
